The CodaBow Marquise Escher is the perfect marriage of bow and musician: a master-level carbon fiber cello bow with expressive sound and exquisite handling. The Escher captivates with its stylish form and rich sound, making it both eye-catching and responsive — not unlike the 1934 Oscar-winning song, “The Continental” — it’s “something daring, a way of dancing that’s really ‘entre nous’.”
A Cello Bow Meant to Last
All components on the CodaBow Escher susceptible to wear (including the tip wedge, button bearings, and tip plate) are carefully engineered with industry-leading composite materials to provide a lifetime of carefree cello play.
Xebony® Frog Solution
An elegant solution to the world's endangered supply of instrument-grade ebony, Xebony® is an exclusive combination of organic fibers and resin that results in natural grain and luxurious gloss, impressing cello players and bow makers alike. Stronger and more durable than natural ebony, Xebony® offers peace of mind while preserving endangered resources.
GlobalBow® Designation
The CodaBow Escher carbon fiber cello bow contains the GlobalBow® designation, meaning it was not made with any regulated, monitored, or endangered species (plants or animals) so you can confidently pass through international Customs with your cello bow.
Unidirectional Carbon Fiber
The CodaBow Escher uses our In-Touch™ architecture, featuring the first-ever unidirectional carbon fibers running seamlessly from button to tip on both sides of the shaft. This innovative design lets the player’s fingertips sense the cello bow’s full-length dynamics and response like never before, emulating the grain pattern of the finest Pernambuco bows.
Natural Acoustic Core
Premium cello bows are crafted with more than just high-quality carbon fiber. The Escher boasts a Natural Acoustic Core made of an organic plant fiber blend, creating a superior, refined sound.

As a cellist, I’ve played several bows that were more expensive. The Escher bow is the best I’ve ever played.
It fits comfortably in the hand and is highly responsive. The tone remains stable from the frog to the tip. Bow changes near the frog are smooth and easy to manage. Accents and staccatos are also easy to execute in the upper half of the bow.. The sound is quite dark yet highly modifiable. Plus, with its dark color, it looks far more beautiful than in the photo. The only issue is that the wooden wedge at the frog occasionally slips out—but that was easy to fix.
I am grateful and will certainly be happy to recommend this wonderful bow.
This bow plays beautifully. I recently got a carbon fiber Mezzo Forte cello for travel and gigs far away and also wanted a bow that could withstand temperature shifts and travel as well. The escher bow stands out above the rest of the coda bows. Thrilled to be playing on this bow. Its smooth, responsive and strong, and sounds lovely. Highly recommend!
My first Coda Bow was a Diamond GX. I loved it and it met my needs. However as I become a stronger player working on more challenging pieces, I found I wasn't achieving the articulation I was looking for.
Enter the Codabow Marquise Escher.
I love it. It improves so much of what I do: sustain, spiccato, phrasing. It offers more nuances.
One main difference I was looking for compared to my other bow was a lighter bow and thisiwas one main reason for choosing the Escher. Over time the diamond GX felt a little too heavy for me.
Do note if you search comparisons specs on AI, you'll be told the difference between Escher, Tuxedo etc is superficial. Not true, they all have different weights.
Thank you Codabow. I am so pleased with the bow and your amazing service.
About a year ago I had the pleasure of trialing all of the top models that CodaBow makes. All diddifferent things quite well though results varied depending no which cello and bow combination I used. Overall I wasn't drawn to any individual bow more than I was the Marquise Escher. One each of my 4 instruments it was by far the easiest to control and create a rich tone with. I took all the bows to the symphony that weekend to have my colleagues play around with each and get educated and unbiased reviews on each option and most also agreed that the Escher was a clear favorite. None of us are willing to go out and buy the bow though despite it playing well above the 2k price tag on account of its physical look. It might be the ugliest bow I've ever seen.
The ivory-esque frog, plain brown slide, barcode winding, and light brown leather grip make it an eyesore to bring onto the stage and sticks out like a sore thumb when most in your section will be sporting black/dark wood colored bows. Knowing that the frog/slide of this bow is just shaped plastic(without the famed Coda badge to boot), and leather grip easily swapped I found it frustrating that nothing about this bow could be changed to meet the eye with more sleek visuals.
To wrap up, if the look of the bow means nothing to you, a better bow for the price just can't be found. I would buy 2 if CodaBow could mimic the look of the Marquise GS or Escent. It really might be one of the best carbon fiber bows on the market regardless of price tag and is a great option for those who prioritize consistency from day to day.
From day 1 it made my tone more resonant, and it handles like a dream.
I am beyond thrilled with my Escher bow. It feels wonderful in my hand and my cello loves it. Coda made buying this bow a breeze.
